Day of the Baptism of Russia

On June 28, Russia celebrates the day of the Baptism of Russia. The event coincides with the Orthodox date - the day of memory of Prince Vladimir - the Baptist of Russia.

Kievan Rus at that time needed to unite forces against external enemies and strengthen the interconnection of disparate Russian tribes within the state. Prince Vladimir was a wise and competent politician. By choosing the Christian faith that Byzantium preached, he was able to raise the authority of Kyiv and strengthen ties with one of the most powerful states of that time.
