The most complex technical object

The requirements for the builders of Bunker-42 were strict - the object was to become a central part of the state administration system in the conditions of the use of nuclear weapons by the enemy, so protection had to be maximum. But in addition to the wartime dangers, there were also technical challenges - the object is located at a depth of more than 50 meters, in a very difficult hydrogeological environment, among groundwater, the pressure of which at depth is much higher than at the surface.

Soviet engineers - metro builders have been looking for ways to deal with groundwater since the mid-1930s, but in our facility all the advanced achievements available at that time were implemented - in our bunker there was both passive waterproofing (a layer of tar behind concrete structures) and a developed drainage system pumping out groundwater, which made it possible to cope with incoming water both in peacetime and in full autonomy, even if the "outboard" water becomes radioactive.

The pumps in Bunker-42 continue to operate today. Every day, about three tons of groundwater is pumped out, which, however, does not affect visitors and staff in any way - the system works in good conscience. And each of our visitors can carefully examine and even feel the drainage pump in the exposition.
