"Russia Makes Itself"

Atomic bomb in the USSR was created 29 August 1949 (the first successful launch). The project was led by academician Igor V. Kurchatov.

The period of development of nuclear weapons in the USSR lasted from 1942, and ended with a test on the territory of Kazakhstan. This violated the us monopoly on this kind of weapons!

Model bomb RDS-1 ("Russia Makes Itself - 1"), which received its name from the chief designer Yuri Khariton, can be seen in the exhibition of our Museum.
